Project Description

COMEDY OF ERRORS

Arts in Warwickshire Education were delighted to be able to offer tickets to 10 schools to see the Young People's Shakespeare production of The Comedy of Errors on Thursday 25th June and Thursday 2nd July 2009. The performances took place at The RSC Courtyard Theatre and the 10 Warwickshire primary schools that were invited to participate found the show a highly enjoyable experience. Teachers felt that the visit to the RSC and the peformance gave the 600 children something to aspire to.

Prior to the performance Arts in Warwickshire Education funded an INSET day for the teachers at the RSC rehearsal rooms. From this INSET session many of the teachers were inspired to create a whole literacy unit based on the play and to train other staff on techniques for drama in school.

Childrens' feedback:

If I had to tell somebody about the play I would say "come and see The Comedy of Errors"

"It is a great play and I will come again"

TWELFTH NIGHT

Filter Theatre have been wowing critics and audiences alike with their production which recently opened at the Tricycle Theatre in London. Four star reviews in the major newspapers and pride of place in the Sunday Times 'critical list' promise a real treat for Warwickshire schools. Only Warwickshire and London are included in their performances for schools.

"If Music Be the Food of Love"

Two of the Warwickshire schools will be participating in an extended project kick-started by the Filter Theatre performance and involving RSC practitioners and County Music Service working with English, Drama and Music departments to explore creative learning strategies with their pupils.
