WEAVE at Whitnash is open to schools and community groups. It is designed to inspire creative use of recycled materials by children, young people, families, educators and community workers. The process of exploration is the focus and not the end product.
WEAVE works with professional artists to encourage participants to approach the resources in an open ended and exploratory way. WEAVE actively sources unusual materials that are aesthetically interesting, which hold exciting potential and value for creativity, learning and communication.
Through artist led workshops WEAVE models good practice in sustainable approaches for schools, communities and families. Weaving the best of CREATES into this project it continues to develop and expand the service offered, as it increases the diversity of partnerships with industry, and encourages new links with local business.
“I felt like a child again and had so much fun exploring the materials as I was creating. I felt there was no end to it all and just wanted to keep going.”
Early Years Educator
“Very inspirational. Ideas: too many to put into practice! Such a brilliant resource to have available”

Project Description
Emily will be using both WEAVE and other materials. This project will encourage pupils and staff to share reflections which will feed into the documentation which will be shared at an evaluation meeting in January 2009
The first Primary Pru training session took place on 27th February from which there was both encouraging and positive feedback.
"Enjoyable, fun, relaxing"
"Lovely to have a creative, practical task - much better than sitting still"
"Supportive way to engage pupils"
"Good to be working within a team"
"Could use pupils to engage their team building"
The first programme then began in the Autumn term and PRU staff visited WEAVE for a planning meeting followed by Emily working at the Pound Lane centre. Pupils are going to be visiting WEAVE with their teachers.
