Project Description
The Pru - Emotional Behaviour
Each term the pupils work on one area of the emotional behaviour curriculum. Emotional behaviour is described as Empathy, Happiness, Confidence, Self control and Emotional stability and Social awareness.
Emotional Journey @ The Creative Hub with Richard Grant
Pupils from PRU's across the county came together in the Creative Hub to take an emotional journey with poet Richard Grant. During the multi-media word art project poems were written, illustrated and performed then captured on film resulting in a CD Rom.
"The project was definitely valuable; the students all had an
opportunity to express themselves. All the staff were involved,
modelling behaviour and participation. It was a good setting for group
work and the resources and provision were of high quality.
Joan Hare – Deputy Head, Curriculum Projects, The Merttens Centre, Rugby
Empathy@ The Creative Hub with Rebecca Harvey
Working
with Rebecca Harvey from Harvey Arts, students created a film piece
using the Digiblue cameras. Pupils were encouraged to write 'rap'
poetry based on the theme of Empathy and perform to an audience. A Cd
was made of the process and presented to the pupils at the end of the
project.
Smile @The Creative Hub with Georgina Egan and Jay
The
ideas for the content of the film came from the students and they were
involved in all aspects of the process. Filming took place on location
in Leamington Spa and students and staff worked together to devise and
produce the film which was directed by theatre producer Georgina Egan
and filmed and edited by musician and film maker Jay Langdell.
Happiness @ The Creative Hub with Nizlopi
"We felt that 'Happiness' was a perfect emotion to tackle using music. Working with a group of 6, 8 and 10 year olds we both felt this project was a real success. From the word go the young people were engaged, motivated and humorous! It was a long journey from the first session to the last but they went from a group of despondent teens who wouldn't stand in a circle to a band recording their first CD"
Luke Concanon, Nizlopi
Recycling @ The Gap with Jackie Golding
The
workshops ran for four weeks and the focus was on the achievements and
successes of the individual child alongside future progression to
secondary education.
"They all looked to the future and imagined how great they would feel if they succeeded in something which was important to them, this hopefully gave them some goals and a focus on the future. The whole experience was based on positive encouragement and praise and emotions being analysed and considered, along with some fun thrown in!"
Artist, Jackie Golding
Brickwork Project with Ros Ingram
This
project involved building sculptures from 'soft' bricks that could be
carved and shaped. The students worked on pieces that eventually were
fired and became permanent displays back at their centres. Pupils
discovered a real sense of purpose and their confidence increased as
their sculptures took shape.

Current Project: WEAVE @ The PRU

Project Description
Emily will be using both WEAVE and other materials. This project will encourage pupils and staff to share reflections which will feed into the documentation which will be shared at an evaluation meeting in January 2009
The first Primary Pru training session took place on 27th February from which there was both encouraging and positive feedback.
"Enjoyable, fun, relaxing"
"Lovely to have a creative, practical task - much better than sitting still"
"Supportive way to engage pupils"
"Good to be working within a team"
"Could use pupils to engage their team building"
The first programme then began in the Autumn term and PRU staff visited WEAVE for a planning meeting followed by Emily working at the Pound Lane centre. Pupils are going to be visiting WEAVE with their teachers.
