Charlie Dark at Alderman Smith School
Charlie has been combining his love of running with his love of words to come up with an exciting new way of engaging young people with poetry. This has been prompted by burgeoning interest in his Run Dem Crew project in London www.rundemcrew.com sponsored by Nike. Of course, he's been to Warwickshire before - see 'School of Dark in our projects section - and he's back by special demand of the children who enjoyed that performance so much.
He visited Warwickshire in July with a specially devised three day treat for year 7 pupils at Alderman Smith School and Sports College in Nuneaton. On some of the hottest days of the year Charlie, school staff and pupils ran in the local area each morning followed by a creative performance poetry session in the afternoon. You can see some of the results in the attached copy of the school's newsletter.
Arts in Warwickshire Education have been discussing with Charlie, his agents Apples & Snakes, Warwick Arts Centre, and Warwickshire schools, how we can develop the Run Dem Crew theme in Warwickshire over the next school year -so watch this space!.
