Project Description
Forest Schools - An Early Years Project
Framing Nature at Brandon Marsh
Practical workshops were designed to explore open ended creative processes, using natural materials, outdoor spaces and structures. There were opportunities to problem solve, work collaboratively, develop ideas, experiment, explore shape, space and pattern, light and shadow and have FUN!
The project consisted of artist led creativity days with early years practitioners, early years advisory teachers and forest school trainees with artists: Laura Gilmour, Emily Warner, Barbara Jones, Matt Shaw and Ros Ingram
Feedback
"Inspiration to get children outdoors and learn about nature"
"The input of artists enabled me to think about things I had not previously considered such as shadows"
"It was good to mix advisory teachers and new forest school trainees"
"Advisory teachers gained more ideas to share with settings, such as offering them collections of materials for classroom use"
" This session has made me think more about using natural materials outside in my setting. It has inspired me to go back to the nursery and develop a nature area in the garden. It has given me the ideas of how to set it out and the natural materials to put in it"
"Looking and learning from others to create 'story corners' 'sensory areas' and opportunities for children to develop concepts and patterns using natural materials"
