Current Project: Big on Play

< >

Project Description

Big on Play is a project organised by Warwick District Council, and supported by the Big Lottery Fund, which will provide children and young people from the Warwick District access to lots of creative play opportunities in public spaces. The children will be able to create play environments that are totally individual providing spaces that are constantly changing so they will want to return time and time again.

The project is a joint venture being run by both the highly experienced WEAVE (Warwickshire's Enviro Arts Vision for Education) team from Arts in Warwickshire Education at Warwickshire

County Council, who have already produced some outstanding play initiatives in the area and the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers (BTCV) Wild Play Team, who will facilitate using natural materials in outdoor environments.

Another strand of the project will be to address the improvement of play areas for disabled children.

Big on Play will shortly be launching a stand alone website. Watch this space for further information.

Current Project: Big on Play - Weapons of Sound

< >

Project Description

This half term we have commissioned Weapons of Sound - the UK's most eco-friendly band to run free workshops to inspire children by using recycled materials to produce infectious rhythic music on drums. Weapons of Sound have a great track record, not only in providing professional workshops, but also on the performance front - highlights of which include playing at The Champions League Final in Paris (May 2006), by royal appointment at The Queens Jubilee party celebration at Buckingham Palace (summer 2002) and kicking off the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Manchester (2002).

Children can just turn up at the Band Stand at The Royal Pump Room Gardens, Leamington Spa on Friday 31 October or Saturday 1 November 2008 to get involved in this musical junk funk extravaganza! Weapons of Sound will be running performance workshops at 11am, 1pm and 3pm.
